Rublev focused and beat Evans to advance to Madrid’s quarterfinals

Date:

the russian Andrew Rublev he parked his visceral tennis and, focused on his attacking game, optimized his shots and lost in the round of 16 of Masters 1,000 ATP Madrid in British Daniel Evans of 7-6 (7) and 7-5.

With this, he signed the pass to the quarterfinals and the best result of his two participations in this tournament.

In a lawsuit moved from the second court to the middle court, after the suspension of Novak Djokovic against Andy Murray because of the Scotsman’s illness, Rublev denied, with exceptions, the chaotic and angry acts he had starred in at his premiere against another Briton, jack draper, and devoted himself to playing tennis.

And the sixth seed started in the worst possible way, giving up his serving after taking a 40-0 lead. The first set was played in the shadow of that defeat, until the Russian leveled for 3-3.

Evans struggled to hold the serve in the final stretch but got into the tiebreak, saving two set points before Rublev closed out the rest.

Another break in the third game of the second set in favor of Rublev, in a very inspiring stage and where he found the highest accuracy in his parallels, paved the way for him. But Evans, 36 in the world, returned to rest after two turns and, then yes, he started shouting anger from the Muscovite.

Rublev wasted three break points at 4-4, as the Briton ran for every ball and released his one-handed backhand.

After 5-5 came the final break for the Russian, who still had options to add the Madrid tournament to that Belgrade, Dubai and Marseille who won this season.

His rival in the quarterfinals will come from the cross between the Bulgarians Grigor Dimitrov and the greek Stefanos Tsitsipasfourth seed.
