The next edition of the Zurich Marató de Barcelona, ​​which will take place this Sunday, will be attended by the Kenyan runner. Samuel Kosgey36 years old, winner last year with 2h.06: 03 with a new test record.

The race, which takes place six months after the last edition was held in November, has 10,073 registered runners (2,900 women) from 86 countries; of them, about 2000 will cover a distance of 10 km. Barcelona Televisió will broadcast, for the first time live, the race in 36 countries.

The race, which pays homage to Barcelona’92 Olympic marathon, has the motto “Experience the most magical Marathon in the world”, and is presented today at the ‘Joan Antoni Samaranch’ Olympic and Sports Museum in Montjuïc, at an event that included David Escudé, sports councilor of Barcelona City Council, and Cristian Llorens, sports director of the event and representatives of the sponsoring companies.

Llorens advanced that the 2023 Barcelona Half Marathon will be held on February 19 and the Barcelona Marathon, on March 19, their traditional dates.

In the male categoryKosgei’s closest rival is Ethiopian Kindie Derseh, fifth in the 2022 Barcelona Half Marathon, held last month with a time of 59:18.

Nor should we forget Kenyan veteran Abel Kiriu, 39, silver medalist in London 2012, double world distance champion and with a personal best of 2:05:09 (Rotterdam 2009).

In the female category The presence of Ethiopian runner Tadelech Bekele Ademu, 31, two-time winner of the Amsterdam Marathon (2017 and 2018) and with a personal best of 2:21:40, is noteworthy.

His direct rivals were his compatriot Meseret Gebre Dekebo, winner of the 2021 San Sebastián Marathon (2:27:30); Ayantu Kumela (2h.24: 35) and Shegae Maeregu (2h.24: 42).

The great new thing in this edition is a 10 km race, which starts at 08:20 and cooperates with Ukrainian refugees, allocating two euros of 25 registration fee for this purpose.

The test route, enhanced in 2019, will continue to be maintained and the route uphill to Avinguda Diagonal and the turn to Travessera de les Corts will be removed again, leaving Camp Nou on the left, softening the start of the route.

In the last section, the daunting last three kilometers of Paral·lel are avoidable, turn into Ronda Sant Pau on Calle Sepúlveda until the finish line on Avda. María Cristina, also the starting point.
