More doping problems for former No. 1 Simona Halep

Romanian tennis player Simona Halepwhich has been temporarily suspended since October 2022 due to testing positive for the banned substance ‘Roxadustat’ in open state States in August of last year, was charged with “additional offense” and separated from Tennis Anti-Doping Program (TADP) due to irregularities in their biological passport.

This is International Agency for Tennis Integrity (ITIA), stating that the additional charge for an ‘adverse finding’ in the biological passport was based on a review of Halep’s profile by an independent panel of experts. This charge is separate from, and in addition to, the August 2022 ‘Roxadustat’ charge, which triggered Halep’s original provisional suspension.

“We understand that today’s announcement adds complexity to a high-profile situation. From the beginning of this process, and with everyone at ITIA, we have remained committed to engaging with Ms. Halep in a compassionate, efficient that way. and timely,” said Nicole SapsteadITIA Director of Anti-Doping.

“Of course, we are aware of the great interest these cases arouse in the media. It is not appropriate for us to comment specifically until the end of the process, but we will continue to cooperate with the independent court of sport decisions and with the representatives of the women Halep as soon as possible,” he added.

The biological passport program, developed by the World Anti-Doping Agency and integrated into the Tennis Anti-Doping Program under the World Anti-Doping Code, is a means by which anti-doping organizations monitor various parameters of blood over time to identify potential violations.
