The British Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers), again the pink jersey of Italy is spinningwas overtaken in a sprint by the Portuguese João Almeidawinner at Monte Bondone, but the goal was reached: back to the lead and endorse time to Primoz Roglic.
“It would have been nice to win the stage, but I don’t want to play cat and mouse with Joao Almeida with Roglic behind, so we worked well together, and he finished first and unfortunately won the sprint. It’s good to be back in pink and get some time, but obviously it’s not good to lose a teammate like Pavel Sivakov,” said Thomas.
Thomas assured the goal that Joao Almeida is a rival to be reckoned with “always”. “He was always one of the biggest rivalshas often shown how strong he is, and his team as well, so his performance doesn’t surprise me.”
