The Italian Alberto Dainese (DSM), rated as “crazy after many trials” his success in seventeenth stage of the Girowhich came true after observing the picture of the arrival.
“It was a crazy finish, a great team job to finish the sprint. As the finish rolled they passed me on the left, so I had to push and try to catch Matthews. In the last meters I was going to the limit and I saw Milan coming. Fortunately I gained a few centimeters, enough to get the victory”, explained Dainese at the finish line in Caorle.
The Venetian rider has commented on his physical problems in recent days, the difficulties that once prevailed accentuated his joy at his second victory in the Giro, and in 2022 he won another one.
“For the last five days I have been sick with stomach problems and my breathing is not good. Today is the first day I feel good, like 80%. To win after so many battles in the last five days is crazy. I’m very happy and I can’t thank the team enough for keeping me in the race and motivating me to win.”
