Angers announced on Tuesday the sacking of the Algerian international Ilyes Chetti, sentenced two months ago for sexual assault. In a press release of a line, the French club reported that it made this decision “in view of the facts denounced and recognized by the latter”.
Chetti, 28 years old, was sentenced in April to a four-month suspended prison sentence after a young woman sued him for groping her at a nightclub party. The player admitted the facts.
Little used throughout the season, as he only participated in six games, Chetti indirectly caused the coach’s departure Abdul Bouhazama, that minimized the aggression.
The coach resigned after defending him
“It’s not bad, we’re all touched girls,” said Bouhazama in a pre-match talk in early March, before being forced to resign when his remarks emerged in the press.
His signing, reason for the sanction in Angers
Angers, bottom of Ligue 1 and relegated for weeks, are also weighing up a ban on signings in the next two market windows due to a dispute over Chetti’s arrival last summer.
His former club, Espérance de Tunis, is questioning the termination that allowed him to sign for Angers for free, filing an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
