It’s official. Milan announced that Zlatan Ibrahimovic, aged 41, will leave the club on Sunday after the final game of the season as both parties have decided not to renew his contract which expires on June 30.
“Tomorrow (Sunday) night after the last game of the season… AC Milan will say goodbye to Zlatan Ibrahimovic in a short ceremony“, the Lombard club announced in a statement. “AC Milan would like to thank Zlatan for the wonderful moments we spent together.”
According to various Italian media, Ibra could join Monza next season and thus reunite with Silvio Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani, former president and ex-CEO of Milan respectively who now take up duties at said club, which tomorrow ends its term against Atalanta first year of its history in Serie A.
He won the ‘scudetto again with Milan in 2022
After the first phase between 2010 and 2012, Ibra returned to Milan in 2019 and helped him win his first ‘scudetto’ in eleven years in 2022. In 2011 he did the same with the Swedish striker in his ranks.
But due to repeated injuries, Ibra has barely played this season. He made a reappearance in February after undergoing surgery on his left knee in May 2022 and only featured in four games (144 minutes) scoring a goal against Udinese in March which made him the veteran goalscorer in Serie A history with 41 years and 166 days.
In total, Ibra played 78 games and scored 37 goals in this second spell in Milan.
He will not play tomorrow and, after the game, the tribute
Milan, fourth classified, will host Verona tomorrow at the San Siro with their passport to the next Champions League secured after losing the current edition to their eternal rivals Inter in the semifinals.
Stefano Pioli, ‘Rossonero’ coach, He suggested that Ibra will not be able to play due to his muscular problems and that after the match Milan will give him a tribute.
