Aragon sees "cannot be displayed" the new COE proposal for Games

Date:

The Aragonese Government considers the new proposal for the distribution of tests made by the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) “impossible to show” for candidacy for the 2030 Winter Olympics to try to bridge existing differences in Catalonia.

This was assured to Efe by sources from the Aragonese Government, who confirmed the information published this Saturday by the Aragón Newspaper which explained that The proposal was transferred this Friday to the Minister of Education and Sports, Felipe Faci, via a phone call made by COE president, Alejandro Blanco.

According to these sources, the new proposal will include the three valleys of the Aragonese PyreneesCandanchú, who will keep up with biathlon but will lose cross-country skiing, confirms it will go to the Formigal resort, while Cerler will host freestyle instead of Baqueira Beret, which will continue snowboarding.

In the opinion of these sources, the biggest loser in distribution is the city of Zaragozawhich will lose figure skating and will be limited to hosting short track and long track events, the final proof of which will require the construction of a new facility that could cease use after the Olympics.

They expressed their discomfort with the COE’s decision not to change its initial proposal to keep up with all the alpine skiing events, the most impressive at the Winter Games, at the Catalan resort of La Molina, and to add figure skating in Barcelona to ice hockey, another of the ruling disciplines of the games.

Sources cited announced that the Aragonese Minister of Education and Sports will address the media this Saturday to announce Aragon’s position in relation to the proposal, with thirteen days left until the maximum period recommended by the COE president for reaching an agreement between the parties.
