Djokovic defined his roadmap: he won’t play a grass tournament until Wimbledon

Date:

After becoming champion of Roland Garros, Novak Djokovic has stated that his calendar does not contemplate playing new tournaments until Wimbledonwhich starts on July 3 and where the Serbian will be looking for his twenty-fourth Grand Slam.

For the third time in his career (he also won the Australian Open and Roland Garros in 2016 and 2021), the Serb is in contention for the annual Grand Slam. For this reason, he wants to reach Wimbledon with full guarantee and He will not change his usual calendar to associate clay with grass.

Djokovic has shown in the past that he can shine in London without playing previous tournaments: won Wimbledon without shooting in grass tournaments in 2011, 2014, 2015, 2019, 2021 and 2022. In his 2018 title he only played Queen’s as a former stop, a tournament where he fell in the final against Marin Cilic. In other seasons he has also played in the London tournament or even in Eastbourne, something that will not happen in 2023.

“I only plan to play Wimbledon on grass. I will go to London soon to train and prepare for a new Grand Slam tournament”explained Djokovic after his victory in Paris.

Of course, before starting to think about the event in London, he will take a few days to relax and celebrate the historic victory achieved this Sunday. “We’ve been working seriously for a long time, so now it’s time to take a break and spend some time with the family, even if it’s not much. The grass season is about to start”, he assured. In fact, it starts this Monday in Stuttgart and in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, but for ‘Nole’ he will have only one stop at the All England Tennis Club.
