Arantxa Rus was proclaimed champion of the Solgironès International Open in La Bisbal after defeating Panna Udvardy in the grand final of the tournament: 7-6, 6-3. A title that represents the first on the WTA circuit for the 32-year-old player.
The final was decided in a painful first set that lasted more than an hour and a quarter, with the Dutch tennis player asserting his experience.
The second set was much calmer for the Delft-born player who immediately broke his rival’s serve. Udvardy reacted, and Rus raised the level late in the game to prevail after a colorful game.
That’s why the Dutch tennis player removed the thorn she had after losing in last year’s final against Irina Khromacheva. An achievement he greatly appreciates. “Had a great match against a level tennis player like Panna Udvardy. I’ve been to La Bisbal three years in a row so I’m very happy to win the tournament,” said the champion.
The Solgironès International Open closes its eighth edition, consolidating La Bisbal as the benchmark for women’s tennis worldwide. This week a thousand people passed through the slopes of the Center Esportiu CT La Bisbal.
