The women’s team begins its preparations for the World Cup

Date:

Illusion faces, hugs, smiles and reunion. The Spanish women’s team begins its countdown to the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, from July 20 to August 20, with the first concentration in Benidorm with the rare return of familiar faces that have not been seen for a long time. Alexia Putellas, the double Ballon d’Or, donned the Red’s kit a year after injuring himself, shortly before Spain’s Euro Cup debut in England, when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. And the faces of the blaugranas are also shining Aitana Bonmatí, Mariona Caldentey and Ona Batlle -recently signed by the team of Jonatan Giráldez-, the three members of the ‘Las 15’ group who eight months later continue their adventure with the national team after reaching an agreement with the RFEF.

The 30 called by Jorge Vilda in this list will now be prepared with the strong aim of convincing the coach to be part of the final list of 23 players who will attend the World Cup. The coach will have 12 days to decide on the final group.

In the next five days, the concentration will take place in Benidorm to face a tight schedule of commitments before his debut, on July 21 in Wellington against Costa Rica.

This first contact will be used by the coaching staff to know the conditions in which the players have arrived and start their preparation, after being disconnected from the competition for a short vacation – most have decided to join the beaches of Menorca or to share these days with his family in his hometown.

After passing through Benidorm, the team will travel to Soccer City of Las Rozas, where he will continue training and tactical talks. There will be a trip to Avilés (Asturias) to face Panama on Thursday July 29 at the Román Suárez Puerta stadium as the penultimate test before the World Cup. Tomorrow, at 2:00 pm, Vilda will announce the final list.

On Tuesday, July 4, the team will travel to Copenhagen to face off Denmark, a high test against a World Cup team and no. 13 in the FIFA ranking. And on July 6, Spain will go to New Zealand to try to get used to the time change as soon as possible. As he himself pointed out vilda, “Spain is one of the contenders for the title.”
