Juan Carlos: “In Girona I feel happy and respected”

Juan Carlos revealed his most personal and heartfelt side after renewing for another season with Girona. The Guadalajara goalkeeper recalls the path he has taken since he arrived at Montilivi.

He is one of the veterans in the squad. “To add my fifth season at Girona is something beautiful and very important. I came here with the goal and idea to help the club regain its place in the First Division and it will cost us, but the road is worth it. Last year was a great year and I hope this one is no different, they say there is no bad fifth”, he joked.

Burgos’ hand will always be remembered. “It was a game where we couldn’t lose and it wasn’t our best day. We were held and there were doubts and, on top of that, their fans welcomed them as if their lives depended on them. I thought they want to end the season well. In that game I was lucky to be successful and I helped the team which, in the end, gave us a tie. We qualified for the playoffs which in the end gave us promotion ,” he recalled.

The picture raising your finger will take you to Tenerife. “This picture fills me with joy and I hope the ‘gironins’ who see it will like it too. I love it, it’s one of my favorites since I was in Girona because it reflects the happiness we feel at that moment. It means going on the path we set after living through a bittersweet moment. We all get that reward,” he admits.

They went through a very difficult year. “It was very difficult to experience what we suffered in the two promotion finals. Looking back, seeing how the First team got relegated, it was also cruel. The club is still young, but it has suffered many setbacks and it is working in a very good line so that we have more joy than disappointment, even though football has many things”, he pointed out.

It occupies a special position. “Goalkeepers are very different. There is a cliché that we are the craziest in the team, although we have to have a lot of sense because we have to make decisions very quickly and we cannot make mistakes. It is a very good position but very thankless because they remember you for your mistakes or successes. I’ve been stopping balls all my life and most of them remember me for the goal I scored, it’s funny. I like being a goalkeeper, it’s something beautiful and I try to do my best”, he added.

This year he won’t be able to participate much. “Football is very new. From my experience, I have lived in all kinds of situations. The last 10 years of my career I participated more than I expected, but football is changing and that’s good too. Over time you move away from the ego and realize that the important thing is to be part of the group. Obviously you always want to be on the field, but when you’re not there you have to help in other ways and here we have a group that adds a lot. There are times when things don’t go the way you want on a personal level, but on a group level you get what you’re looking for. This last year, which has not been the best for me, has filled the team a lot and I have felt part of everything”, he highlighted.

I still need to renew a bit. “I am very happy in Girona. I am happy and respected. Respect is one of those values ​​that loses importance and from day one, both me and the family felt loved by the fans and the dressing room. In this way it is easier to feel satisfied to give maximum. We will be one more season and hopefully many more”, he wished.
