Despite the fact that there were disagreements and clashes with Monchi’s departure, José Castro, president of Sevilla, denied that he was “disappointed” with his former sports director over the presentation of Víctor Orta as his replacement.
Sevilla, after negotiations lasting two weeks, forced Monchi to pay his termination clause to separate himself from Sevilla and sign for Aston Villa. In total, 3.1 million, 2.4 of the release clause and another 600,000 euros for not notifying three months in advance.
“I have not failed in anything. Everything he has done at the club is to thank him. We are in the elite and he is an important pillar. He wants to have a change of scenery, it is a very difficult time and he is tired, He is and will be is one of us and he has given everything. We can only thank him very much”, he said with Víctor Orta in the Sánchez Pizjuán press room.
Castro avoided the comparison between Víctor Orta and Monchi. “I wouldn’t say the word continuity. We know him. Víctor is Víctor and Monchi is Monchi. He has done a lot for Sevilla and now we are excited that Víctor has done the same”, he specified.
The president promised to give Orta the tools to build a good squad this summer and compete with guarantees in the Champions League and La Liga. “In the market where you buy and sell, I’m sure we’ll have a very competitive team and I’m sure Sevilla will be ready for the next market”.
The dance of names: Braulio, Cobeño…
The president was also asked about Sevilla’s change of standard when closing the inclusion of a replacement for Monchi, as he tried and received negative responses from the sports directors of Osasuna and Rayo Vallecano, Braulio Vázquez and David Cobeño. Castro made it clear that Orta is always the first option. “When we sign a sports director or a player, it is normal to look at several options. But the first choice is Victor Orta. And he is sitting here, it could not have been faster”.
