Bezzecchi sealed his impressive weekend with pole position

Date:

The battle for pole position in Assen has come down to the rider who has dominated every session held at Assen in MotoGP to date, Italian Marco Bezzecchi, the fifth different poleman so far this season and heading into the favorite for both races of the weekend. Ducati and Italy signed the front row triplet completed by the leader Pecco Bagnaia and Luca Marini. Jorge Martinthe other pole of attention in the championship, suffered a crash at the beginning of the session and could not get past tenth place on the grid, which would make it difficult for him to find a podium finish.

Zarco in Q1 raised the bar for the weekend to 1’31″993, four tenths off Bagnaia’s record for 2022. Bezzecchi with 1’31″874 has already upped the ante when Jorge Martin he crashed at turn 5 and had a margin of ten minutes to try to correct the provisional twelfth place on his second bike.

Meanwhile, Bezzecchi and Bagnaia, their great rivals, had already taken the lead over Viñales.

After Quartararo took the lead with 1’31″770, Bezzecchi made it clear that he wanted to dominate all sessions in Assen. He broke the clock with his 1’31″472, a new record for him. Binder and Quartararo became the surprise occupants of the provisional front row until Bagnaia and Marini collided for second and third. In the next quick turn, without Pecco Marini’s reference, he went to the ground.

For Bezzecchi, this is his second pole position ever in MotoGp after last year’s Buriram and he clearly has something more than the rest that makes him a strong favorite for both races if he can get off to a good start .

Martin didn’t feel comfortable on the second bike and after swapping the hard starting front for the soft front he ended up in tenth and was unable to make another lap when he saw the checkered flag. Fourth row for him with Oliveira and Miller and behind Viñales, his teammate Zarco and Àlex Márquez.

Three non-Ducati riders will start from the second row, Ducati Quartararo, KTM’s Brad Binder and Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaró, another of the riders who were heavily affected this weekend, but after one turn he shined again in Assen where last year. at the end of the race he made a double overtaking and movie overtaking Miller and Binder in the final chicane.
