1-0: Botafogo run away with the lead

Botafogo won this Sunday 1-0 in his visit to the current champion palmeiras and he further distinguished himself at the top of the Brazilian Championship, in a match played at the Allianz Parque stadium in Sao Paulo. With a single goal from the tournament’s top scorer, Tiquinho Soares, and no impressive performance, the Rio de Janeiro team confirmed itself as the leader of the table, with 30 points, eight more than Palmeiras.

The paulistas -despite leaving everyone on the field- were ousted by Gremio, who moved up to second position, with 23 points, after beating Coritiba 5-1. Portuguese players Abel Ferreira fell to fourth place with 22 points, the same as Flamengo, which is ahead of Paulistas in third position, for the highest number of goals.

Palmeiras were unlucky on Sunday, dominating early on and even drew with Paraguayan Gustavo Gómez, a goal that ended up being annulled by VAR. The second chance came in the second half with a penalty wasted by Raphael Veiga and, despite a strong attack in the final minutes, the Paulistas failed to equalize.

Meanwhile, in the south of the country, Gremio humiliated Coritiba in a win Porto Alegre fans were hoping for. In other matches of the day, Bragantino beat Goiás 2-0 and Internacional beat América Mineiro 2-1. On Saturday, Fluminense beat Bahía 2-1 from a comeback, Athletico Paranaense beat Corithians 1-0 with a goal from Víctor Roque, the young revelation wanted by Barcelona and Fortaleza, who beat Atlético 2-1 Miner.
