Andrea Gaudenzi was re-elected as ATP President, with a second term until 2026. The ATP announced the news on Monday. Gaudenzi, a former professional player, took up the role in January 2020.
Under the leadership of Gaudenzi, men’s tennis introduced a 50-50 profit-sharing formula that resulted in a $37.5 million increase cashiers on the ATP Tour and the lower-level ATP Challenger Tour in 2023.
According to the circuit, this is the largest one-year increase in its history. Other elements of Gaudenzi’s tenure mentioned in the press release include the introduction of 12-day Masters 1000 tournamentsthe long-term consolidation of media rights, increased player pension contributions and a 75% increase in ATP Challenger Tour prize pools to $21.1 million this year.
Gaudenzi wants to increase cooperation between the seven governing bodies of tennisa group that also includes the WTA, the International Tennis Federation and the four Grand Slam tournaments.
The Italian won three tour titles and reached 18th place in his career before retiring in 2003. He replaced Chris Kermode at the helm of the ATP.
