Rebecca Masarova qualified this Tuesday for quarterfinals of the Bad Homburg WTA 250 tournament (Germany) after defeating in two sets and one hour and eight minutes the fifth seed and champion of the 2019 United States Open, the Canadian Bianca Andreescu.
It is the second time this season that Masarova, who was born in Basel (Switzerland) to a Slovak father and a Spanish mother, has reached the quarterfinals.
In her second tournament on the grass court, Masarova, 69 in the WTA rankings, broke her rival’s serve in the second game of the match to put the opening set on track, which was won by 6-3.
In the second period, the Spaniard achieved two ‘breaks’ in the fifth and seventh games to close the rivalry by a 6-2 against 51st in the world and runner-up in Bad Homburg last year. This is the first confrontation between the two players.
This victory highlighted Masarova’s breakout year on tour, where she reached her first singles final in Auckland in the opening week of the season and made her World Top 100 debut the following week.

Besides, Lyudmila SamsonovaSeeded number 2, she defeated Linda Noskova 6-4, 6-7 (4) and 6-3 and qualified for the quarterfinals. The Russian defeated the 18-year-old Czech with 16 aces.
The seed number 8, the French Varvara Grachevaalso qualified for the quarterfinals, in her case after defeating the Italian Sara Errani 6-2, 7-5.
