The first stage of Giro d’Italia Womena time trial to be held in Chianciano, is cancelled when it starts, for one heavy storm of rain and hailwhere the organization decides that the open race will start with a first stage where the runners will start without time differences.
The Movistar runner, Annemiek Van Vleutendefending title and main favorite to wear the pink “maglia” again started the 4.4-kilometer time trial and managed to get very close to the Italian. Letizia Paternosterwho reached the finish line in a time of 5 minutes and 43 seconds.
A large number of runners finished, but the storm prevented others from leaving or finishing their route when the decision to cancel the stage was made.
So, the women’s Giro actually starts tomorrow, again in Tuscany, with a 102-kilometer stage between Bagno a Ripoli and Marradi.
