Fernando Alonso will start this Sunday in the 7th position on the starting grid of the Austrian GP with the aim of returning after a very intense and rigorous qualifying. The Spaniard exceeded the limits of the track in Q2 and therefore canceled an hour, something that forced him to spend an additional set of new soft tires that he could not reserve for Q3. In this way, he reached the decisive stage of qualifying with only a set of new soft tires, something that conditioned him. Despite this, the Asturian is “optimistic” Looking forward to Saturday, with short qualifying and a sprint race on a day that could be wet, and especially ahead of Sunday’s race, where he knows he will have good weapons to fight for a comeback. Fernando will start 7th just behind Aston Martin teammate Lance Stroll who is 6th.

“I felt good after that qualifying session. It’s always an intense qualifying here, where the lap times are very tight. If you look at the times in the three sessions, there are two or three tenths between a large number of cars. We had a lap time knocked out of us in Q2, forcing us to put an extra set of tires on the car to progress. So it means we only have one chance with the new tires in Q3, which is not ideal.”commented Alonso through a statement from the Aston Martin team.
“However, sixth (his teammate Stroll) and seventh are solid starting positions for us. I think it will be interesting and exciting with the weather because there is a possibility of rain tomorrow (Saturday) and conditions could be dry on Sunday. The car feels good so I’m optimistic for the rest of the weekend.”then the Asturian.
