Nadal will start in Rome against Isner

Date:

the Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadalthird seeded in the tournament, will debut in this edition of Rome Masters 1,000 before the American John Isner, who beat the Argentine in two sets Francisco Cerundolo.

Nadal, who has so far devoted himself to training at the Foro Italico and has received the affection of tennis fans in the sports arena, is already known to be his rival. Isner will be the first stone in his defense of the crown of a city he has conquered ten times.

The American, number 27 in the world, had to remove Argentine Cerundolo to pass the first round, something he achieved without too many complications, without having to prolong the match in the third set (6-4 and 6-3).

Cerundolo put up a fight in the first set, but at 5-4 against the scoreboard, the world number 49 dropped his serves and, therefore, the first stake. In the second set, Isner recovered from the break he received and became sharper and more accurate from that moment on, until he broke his rival’s serve with a 4-3 favor that put in the fight.

Nadal and Isner have met a total of eight times with a balanced eight wins in favor of Manacor, favorites to reach the round of 16 which will measure the winner of the duel between Canadian Denis Shapovalov or Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili.

The Spaniard began training on Italian clay on Sunday, after being eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Madrid Open by his compatriot Carlos Alcaraz, a sensation on the current circuit who decided to skip the Italian event to reach the Roland Garros Grand Slam.
