Dortmund challenge Haaland: "We will meet"

Borussia Dortmund are already looking to the future without Erling Haaland, who was signed by Manchester City on Tuesday, and their coach Marco Rose insists the team will not stop being competitive despite the departure of their young Norwegian striker.

Haaland will say goodbye to Dortmund fans this Saturday, where he arrived in January 2020 from Red Bull Salzburg, in the final day of the Bundesliga against a Hertha Berlin played in permanent venue at Signal Iduna Park.

“We won’t stop playing football after Erling leaves us,” Rose said today at a press conference. “He decided to take his next step with City and we wish him all the best. He gave us goals, energy, he’s a player who always wants to win. I think he can still improve. He’s still young.”

Dortmund have already secured the Bundesliga runner-up position after Bayern Munich and will participate in another Champions League season like Manchester City. “We’ll meet again. Hopefully we’ll meet again,” Rose said.

Signatures and other dismissals

Instead of Haaland, Dortmund signed striker Karim Adeyemi, 20, from Red Bull Salzburg, like the Norwegian. Other reinforcements so far confirmed are defender Niklas Süle (Bayern) and Nico Schlotterbeck (Freiburg).

In addition to Haaland, sporting director Michael Zorc, who is stepping down, as well as players Marcel Schmelzer, who will retire, Axel Witsel, Dan-Axel Zagadou, whose contracts will also end on June 30 , and Roman Bürki, who signed for St. Louis City of MLS.
