Rain once again blew up the program of matches this Thursday of the Montreal tournament, though forced to postpone two rounds of 16 matches on Friday.

It was definitely an extraordinary dayand I don’t think I’ve had such a situation in my career, so I have a chance to learn something new and see what I’m capable of, even though we’ve played this match three times,” said the Pole in his on- court interview.
With the win, Swiatek -who also defeated Muchova in June in the Roland Garros final- guaranteed to stay at number 1 for the 72nd consecutive week when the new rankings are published on Monday.
The 22-year-old leads the tour with 49 match wins. Swiatek will face Danielle Collins in the quarterfinalswho beat local favorite Leylah Fernandez 6-3, 6-3 in the final game of the night.
In the only game of the afternoon, the American Jessica Pegula, seeded fourth, defeated the Italian Jasmine Paolini 6-4, 6-0.
Pegula will face Coco Gauff, the sixth seed, who defeated Marketa Vondrousova, ninth seed and Wimbledon champion, on the fast track, 6-3, 6-0. Gauff won his fourth career title last week in Washington.
Who also firmly advanced to the quarterfinals is Elena Rybakyna, third seed, defeated American Sloane Stephens 6-3, 6-3. The Kazakh will face number 10, Russian Daria Kasatkina, who beat Czech Marie Bouzkova (6-3, 6-4).
Matches between Aryna Sabalenka and Liudmila Samsonova, and Petra Kvitova and Belinda Bencic, have been postponed. until Friday (18 Spanish peninsular time).
