Casadei won Le Mans and Jordi Torres lost

Date:

Mattia Casadei confirmed herself this Saturday at Le Mans by reaping a brilliant victory in the first of two races scheduled for the weekend for the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup, a bitter day for Pons Racing 40 since breaking his fibula with his double champion Jordi Torres in the fall on the first lap.

The Italian had to wait until the last corner to take the lead matured lap by lap and allowed him to overtake Dominique Aegerter (Dynavolt Intact GP) and Hikari Okubo (Avant Ajo MotoE ™), who signed on his first podium in the category at the expense of Kevin Zannoni (Ongetta SIC58 Squadra Corse) who after being very competitive and showing Casadei the wheel until the last corner, crashed.

Zannoni was the first to take the reins after the start, beating poleman Casadei. However, there were a few seconds of glory for the rider of the Ongetta SIC58 Squadra Corse, who in just one lap was quickly overtaken by a Casadei who went straight and opened up a gap of up to 7 tenths with respect to his compatriot. Barely crossing more than 3 corners, reigning MotoE Cup champion Jordi Torres, suffered a bad fall where his leg was broken.

Over the first few kilometers, everyone seemed to indicate that it would be a quiet race, as more than the advantage Casadei had over Zannoni, he was also nearly a second ahead of third -placed Hikari Okubo (Avant Ajo MotoE). In addition, the Tokyo driver was riding alone, as the other group, led by Dominique Aegerter, was far away. All distances are greatly reduced. Aegerter caught up with Okubo, while Zannoni tried to challenge Mattia Casadei for the lead.

At the gate of the podium will finish Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini MotoE) followed by Héctor Garzó (Tech3 E-Team), with Miquel Pons (LCR E-Team) finishing 6th. Eric Granado (LCR E-Team), finally, should settle for being 7th ahead of Niccolò Canepa (WithU GRT RNF). The final Top 10 will be completed by Andrea Mantovani (WithU GRT RNF MotoE) and a punished Alex Escrig (Tech3 E-Team).

In his seventh position, Granado maintained the lead with 59 points, 6 more than Aegerter and Casadei climbed to third place with 41 points, two more to Ferrari, where Pons closed out the Top 5. This Sunday on Le Mans, second race.
