Sainz provided the key to Ferrari’s performance at Zandvoort

Date:

Carlos Sainz was a difficult ballot in qualifying this Saturday at the F1 Dutch GP. He arrived with a lack of mileage on his Ferrari this weekend and had doubts about the car’s behavior. The Spaniard missed Free Practice 1 as youngster Rober Shwartzman rode in the Ferrari as part of his program with the Maranello team. He had to take advantage of Free Practice 2 and 3 to find the right balance of the car and get used to a complex track like Zandvoort, but after FP2 where there was a red flag and where the two Ferraris were not feeling well. , in Free Practice 3 the rain prevents Carlos from doing important tasks. So, he came to the classification, in search of answers, with a car that probably wouldn’t give him options to enter Q3 at this track. The SF23 suffers on highly loaded tracks like this track and the ‘qualification’ seems complicated. However, he managed to make it into Q3 after emerging unscathed despite the added difficulty of rain and changing conditions. And finally, he achieved the 6th which he clearly signed without hesitation before qualifying.

“It has even gone a little better than we expected,” commented Carlos after the session, after finishing 6th on the grid this Sunday.

“We changed quite a bit throughout the weekend and already missing Free Practice 1 (because Robert Shwartzman drove in his place) and then having Free Practice 3 in the wet without learning in the dry. It’s been a difficult weekend until now, where it looks like we’re going out in Q3. And then we’ve been ahead in Q1 and Q2, we’ve succeeded in the techniques and in the end I’m sixth, if you’d told me then. the ‘qualy’ and I would have I will sign. It is clear that in these highly loaded circuits, with many curves, with very high aerodynamic loads, we have already seen in Hungary that we do not work well and we have to know how to suffer with this type of circuits and more circuits like Spa are coming we will be better”, comments.

“It has been a good ‘qualification’, well executed, but this weekend it has been regular. Tomorrow I don’t really know what to expect, because I’ve only done Free Practice 2 and I don’t have time yet. Take a look. But I think finishing between the top 6 and 8 is more or less where we have to focus,” he concluded. On this track, Carlos has to suffer to score as many points as possible.
