Just two days after winning the WTA 250 title in Cleveland (Ohio) this Saturday, the Spanish tennis player Sarah Sorribes put together his excellent moment on Monday and qualified for the second round of the United States Open after defeating the Ukrainian Angelina Kalina.
Sorribes, who rose 40 spots on the WTA from 95 to 55 with her win in Cleveland, defeated Kalinina, world number 28, 6-4, 7-5 in two hours and 13 minutes.
The Spaniard will face the winner of the American match in the next round Katie Volynets (124) and the Chinese Xinyu Wang (53).
Sorribes won the second tournament of her career last week (after the WTA 250 in Guadalajara in 2021) after defeating the Russian in Cleveland Ekaterina Alexandrova by 3-6, 6-4 and 6-4.
He also became the lowest ranked champion able to win that tournament in Ohio (USA).
