The Royal Spanish Athletics Federation has announced the team that will play on World Athletics Road Championships which takes place in September, with three tests -mile, 5k and half marathon- and where coach José Pereiro and the RFEA Sports Department present a group composed of five athletes, a woman, martha perezand four boys: Mohamed Attaoui, Gonzalo Garcia, Ouassim Oumaiz and Juan Antonio “Chiki” Perez.
In the mile discipline, the Spanish team will have Marta Pérez, Mohamed Attaoui and Gonzalo García. La Soriana was declared Spain’s champion over the distance in May and, in Budapest, reaching the semifinals of the 1500m, she will wear the Spanish jersey for the third time this season.
Attaoui will add his second absolute international cap a month after his first. The Spaniard was one of the key figures in the 800m in Budapest where he managed to reach the semifinals, and was also proclaimed runner-up in the 1500m U23 Europe. García returned to the team a year later, after his sixth place in the 1500m at the European Championships in Munich.
For the 5K, the national team will have record holder Ouassim Oumaiz. After a full international in cross country and his time on the track at the World Cup in Budapest, where he qualified to play in the 5000 m final, he will make his full road debut in Riga.
The athletics quintet closes with the presence of Juan Antonio “Chiki” Pérez in the half marathon test. The man from La Mancha will compete in his third race in this category, where his personal best was 1:00:58 in 2019, the third best Spanish mark in history.
