He South African Brad Binder and the Australian Jack Millerteam pilots Red Bull KTM Factory Racing of the MotoGP World Championshipsailed this Wednesday to Barcelona with the Swiss team Alinghi Red Bull Racingresistant to 37th America’s Cup which will take place in the Catalan city in 2024.
Both pilots boarded the team’s Chase Boat to follow the training of one of the two AC40s (monohulls with ‘foils’ 11.90 meters long). After an hour and a half of following the evolution of the boats, Binder and Miller returned to land, on a day with waves and strong currents.
The two MotoGP riders, who will compete on Sunday in Catalunya Grand Prix, at Circuit de Montmelóthey visited the The Swiss team base at the Dock of Spain in Port Vell.
“Sailing is not a big problem for me, I love the sea and this has been an incredible opportunity to see the AC40 ‘fly’. The truth is that this is a show for people who love to sail” assured Binder on EFE statements.
The 28-year-old South African pilot occupies fourth place this season in the general classification, 91 points behind the leader, Pecco Banagia.
In the last three World Cup events he was fourth in Hollandthird to United Kingdom and second to Austria. Asked if he now has victory on the Catalan track, he replied: “Of course, that is my goal and I feel good. I think it is a good opportunity and that it will be a highly contested race.”
However, he considers championship leader Banagia to be the favorite this season, although he warns that there is “a long way to go”.
For his part, the 28-year-old Miller, who will enter his first year with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, assured that everything is working “as planned” and is looking forward to the next race.
“The last two races have been good and for this I do not rule out being on the podium in Montmeló. This is my eighth season in MotoGP and I admit that ducati is running a great campaign and that Pecco (Banagia) he makes the most of his opportunities”, concluded the Australian driver.
