The Board of Directors of Deportivo Alavés, in the words of its president Alfonso Fernández de Trocóniz, assured that “we have made mistakes” that prompted the team to step down after enjoying the longest period of its centennial history in First Division, with six consecutive campaigns.
“In Alavés there is no room for surrender or excuses and for this reason we must acknowledge that we have made a mistake,” the albiazul president said. “When the season is over we will do the deepest analysis and we will give the public the relevant explanations, but now is the time to assume the situation and deal with it”, he stressed.
“We are convinced that we can survive a year of relative silence on the top flight, but clearly we have not been successful”, said the club manager from Vitoria. In addition, he added that “failure is great, but we need to start a new project in the Second Division and we must do it with the greatest possible enthusiasm, even though now it is difficult for us to accept it.”
The president feels the frustration experienced by many people every day in Mendizorroza is “supporting the team with full force” and asks for their confidence to ensure the team returns soon to play another season in the First Division . “Suffering and overcoming poverty are in our DNA. Our centenary history is full of difficult situations that we have always gone through together.
