Arthur Elias was appointed as the new coach of the women’s soccer team of Brazil, as announced by the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF), after Pia Sundhage resigned from her position following the early elimination from the World Cup. Elias, 42, came from the Corinthians women’s team.
“I am sure that we will change the reality of women’s football in Brazil in a short time,” Elias said in a statement a few hours ago. “My mission is to bring results in the short term, in the Olympic Games (2024). The Brazilian team needs to become world leader again, that is our objective”, he added.
The South Americans suffered their first World Cup elimination since 1995 in Australia and New Zealand, where they failed to get past the group stage. Swedish Sundhage, 63, has one year left on his contract and will coach the team at the Paris Olympics.
