The keys to the Carrera de Catalunya

Date:

1. The many crashes in the first corner of the race. Unfortunately it can be said to be a ‘classic’ at the end of the Montmeló straight. This time it was Enea Bastianini who started the domino effect when he went full force on the first braking. Six pilots went down; all from Ducati. Bastianini came out worse and was unable to start the race.

2. The crash of Pecco Bagnaia in the second corner of the race. Cool incident made by Pecco Bagnaia who got off his motorcycle at the second corner of the race, lying in the middle of the track in front of 15 motorcycles. All but Binder managed to avoid him, running into the legs of the Italian driver. As of press time, miraculously his injuries appear to be minor.

3. The height of Aprilia in Montmeló.

We mentioned this in our short race keys yesterday: on the Circuit, the traction capacity of Noale’s bikes clearly makes them the most efficient bikes. Today’s historic result – the sighting of the first and second Aprilia – confirms this.

4. The determination of Aleix Espargaró.

Yesterday the same attitude that led him to win today led him to the top of the podium yesterday. When Viñales opened an advantage of almost two seconds, the race seemed lost, but not for Espargaró, who once again told himself “I’ll win this race” and gambled everything on one card.

5. Front wheel steering.

The completion of the race – as always brilliant – showed several images of the destroyed front wheel of Viñales’ motorcycle. All pilots have suffered from this, but some know how to manage them better than others, as is the case with Aleix Espargaró and Jorge Martín.
