Alcaraz, guarding Medvedev: “He will make changes, I will not give hints”

Date:

Carlos Alcaraz is one step closer to the US Open final. The Murcian defeated Alexander Zverev with immense authority in a true tennis recital that launched him as favorite in his semifinal duel against Daniil Medvedev, a rival he did not trust.

He’s going to try to make changes, I don’t know what kind of changes but obviously he’s going to try different things. For my part, I will not give many hints either (…). But we will put our level, play a good game and tactically what I talk about with Juan Carlos (Ferrero) will do it to the letter. Against a player like Medvedev, tactically, you cannot make many mistakes”, he assured at a press conference.

Despite everything, Alcaraz acknowledges that the Russian is a rival who has been doing well lately. “The last games I played against Daniil I played a perfect tactical game. I did all the things I should have done against him. I think my game fits well against that type of opponent. So I will try to do the same things that I did, for example, in Indian Wells (final) and Wimbledon (semifinals).”

Regarding his rivalry with Zverev, Alcaraz highlighted how comfortable he is on the track and his good shape. “In the ‘grand slam’ I see that these results come thanks to the work I do and the players I face have to play at a high level. for a long time to win. I feel that I have an advantage, let’s say, in the ‘grand slam'”, argued the tennis player.

Obviously, then anything can happen. But I’m beautiful physically, I’m beautiful mentally, with players to weigh in. I think I see myself as having a certain advantage in these kinds of moments,” he added.

Asked about the possibility of facing Novak Djokovic in the US Open final, Alcaraz was cautious. “This is more than the beginning of the contest. We are one game away from that potential final. Could be great… but we both have really tough semis. So let’s see. Obviously we’re both looking for that ultimate potential.”

Reigning tournament champion Alcaraz assured that he has more experience than in 2022when he won his first crown at Flushing Meadows.

I think I’m more mature now, I’ve grown a lot since last year. Last year I faced my first semifinal of a ‘grand slam’. This will be my fourth,” he said.

});

I feel like a completely different player (…). I faced the pressure of such moments. I feel different: a different person and a different player.”

Alcaraz, also a Wimbledon winner this year, has reached the semifinals in his last four ‘bigs’ (he missed the Australian Open due to injury).
