Mexican women’s soccer’s Tuzas del Pachuca announced Thursday that they will pay tribute to Spaniard Jennifer Hermoso for being part of her country’s world champion team.
“Prior to the duel against Pumas this Sunday, we will pay tribute to Jenni Hermoso, world champion,” announced a note from the board, celebrating the return of the midfielder.
After receiving a kiss on the mouth without permission from Luis Rubiales, president of the Spanish Football Federation, which put him at the center of international attention for sexual harassment, Hermoso arrived a few hours ago in Pachuca.
The player aims to prepare as soon as possible to help the team regain prominence in the Apertura tournament, where it occupies tenth place in the standings.
Pachuca announced that for now the 33-year-old player will not attend the media and will focus on his soccer to contribute to coach Juan Carlos Cacho’s team, finalist of the last Clausura tournament.
Pachuca will host Pumas, eighth in the table, and if they win they could enter the qualifying phase for the quarterfinals.
Las Tuzas assured that the Madrid native will have their “institutional, emotional and personal” support so that he can concentrate on his football.
Hermoso lived one of her greatest sporting moments in August, as one of the figures who gave Spain its first women’s world title, by beating England in the final of the Australia and New Zealand 2023 World Cup.
At the award ceremony, Rubiales’ kiss caused world rejection; After a few difficult weeks, Hermoso formally filed a harassment complaint against Rubiales.
Along with Hermoso, Mexican Charlyn Corral, Panamanian Marta Cox and Costa Rican Piscila Chinchilla, Pachuca will bet on improving from Sunday and if it enters the quarterfinals, it will be one of the candidates for the title.
