Jon Rahm (66) didn’t give up at Wentworth and will have his chance

Date:

The third day started very well (quite the opposite of the previous day) for Jon Rahm within BMW Championship which is disputed in Wentworth, outside Londonand well (it could have ended worse, the truth is) the round ended for the Basque: 66 strokes, six under par, for 204 (-12), 7th classified 4 strokes behind the leader, the surprising Swedish phenomenon Ludvig Aberg (66), won two weeks ago the European Masters and was chosen by Luke Donald for Ryder from Rome. Aberg has 20 birdies this week, more than any other player.

Rahm, once again showing his characteristic spirit of fighting, sacrifice and survival, shook his fist in anger and joy at the 18th because he knew how important the last birdie-4 after going from bunker to bunker and shooting because it’s my turn. , and close the round with a rare, brutal ‘4’, with a third hit from the sand and 100 meters to the magnificent flag. A ‘4’ like minutes before he marked his scorecard with a length of 17, sinking a 12-meter putt.

Jon played 11 great holes this Saturday on the West course. scoring six birdies without a mistake that lifted him to the very first places in the classification. He did this by hitting long and short putts and leaving two balls ‘given’ with his second shot. But on the 12th hole, the first par 5 of the second round and the ball on the fairway, very long, came the step back that affected the Basque mentality. A mistake that could be very costly.

The second shot missed the green and stayed in the valley to the left, he played a discreet chip that reached 2.5 meters from the flag and didn’t make the putt. That par-5 should be considered a bogey, which it was on the next hole, the 13th.

After saving two good pars on 14 and 15, on 16 again with the ball on the exit fairway, he missed the green and the approach shot left the ball about 3 meters from the hole. Jon putts and the ball makes a ‘tie’, another bogey and it hurts even more. It seems like all the work in the beginning came to nothing because of these two (three) mistakes.

However, there were still par 5s on 17 and 18 to change a card that ended up being very good, not the best of the day, but it allowed Barrika to get into the top ten of the table while waiting. for the last day this Sunday where bad weather is expected.

Aberg is a rock today, he has the same face if he makes a birdie or a bogey and who knows if on the 13th hole he had the luck of the champion, when after going to the hazard on the left of the fairway and down with a penalty, he holed a long putt for a bogey-5 that looked like Scandinavian glory because everyone suggested he’d come out of there with a double-6, thus opening the tournament to a few, including Rahm. In the end, a difference of 4 strokes was maintained where the third round began.

However, there are currently eleven players in a five-stroke range and four will compete in the Ryder in two weeks: Aberg, Tommy Fleetwood (67 this Saturday)Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton. The final day is promising and for Rahm we will have to see if the third time is lucky after achieving second place in 2019 and 2022. He will start the penultimate game of the day.
