José Luis Mendilibar, coach of Sevilla, regretted the draw against Lens in their Champions League debut at Sánchez Pizjuán, the coach’s first game in the top continental competition.
“With 1-0 I thought we would enjoy it but we suffered. This is a Champions League game and there are no easy games here. In the first half we dominated and came first but in the second half they were better than us. It is difficult for us to get there, to generate opportunities… we have been very separated between the lines and that is why it has been difficult for us,” analyzed the Basque coach on Movistar +.
“Since the tie they are more comfortable than us. They finished the first half better and in the second half they played better than us. They were organized and knew what they were doing and we played more in the wave, rushing and not thinking too much,” continued Mendilibar.
“We are a team that can do well but we need everything,” added the coach, who called for patience for the newcomers. “Football is not played everywhere and in that sense you have to be patient with those who come and believe in those who are there,” he said.
