“Samurai is a way to remind me who I am, where I came from and the strength I have to have every day,” he said years ago. Fernando Alonso. He did not hide his passion for Japanese culture. Especially, in the philosophy of the samurai, inspiration for the Asturian to face his life, and above all, his challenges on the track. No wonder the Spaniard has a tattoo of a samurai warrior on his back. “Even death is a privilege (for samurai), not a fear. At any turn, at any moment, at any curve… I am not afraid of anything. You have to be ready for what may happen. You have to train and be ready. Discipline, self-confidence and not fear. We are fighting for one goal, to win. “There are many moments inside the car when you feel that someone else is faster and you cannot react,” Fernando Alonso referred to the aforementioned promotional video, in which he revealed one of his few fears.

On the track, passing 300 km/h does not cause fear. Nor did it cause him to go over 350 km/h on the dangerous Indianapolis oval. Neither went deep into the dangers of the Saudi desert in his first Dakar. Nor dare the rain on the dreaded night of Le Mans. He is not afraid behind the wheel. But the Spaniard, this time, recognized only one fear: it was not inside a cabin and in general, in life. This is exactly what Fernando Alonso said: “My biggest fear is not doing well, not performing… not winning. “Life is more about failure than success and you have to deal with it to come back stronger.”

“I’m not stopping anytime soon”

“Samurai use that faith in a battle, the anger they carry inside to train better. “I’ll go into battle or race a little more prepared,” added the Spanish.

“Every race start, even if we’re not competitive enough to fight for the win, there’s that 1% in me that, when I lower the visor (of the helmet) and the green light goes out, continues hoping that’s it day when i win 99% of the time you will fail. But by the time you have success…” he added about his pursuit of success.

“It’s not about doing crazy things. It’s not about thinking that you’re at the limit. You have to use that hunger and competitiveness that you have inside to attack as hard as you can. It’s the only way to find what’s inside of you ” added Fernando, sure of one thing: “I’m not stopping anytime soon.” At 42 years old, the Asturian feels he has a lot left in him for a long time.
