1,300 euros to see Jon Rahm, return 500 million… The Ryder Cup, in numbers

Date:

Up to 1,300 euros to see Jon Rahm. A budget of 157 million. An expected return of more than 500 million. Whole hotel. A pristine lawn to make history with a total of 300,000 spectators ‘in situ’. Tradition and luxury. It’s the Ryder Cup where the United States and Europe battle to lift the legendary trophy starting this Friday in Rome.

When Rome was chosen as the venue in 2015, Italy embarked on one of its most ambitious sports projects.. With a budget of 157 million according to data from the Italian Golf Federation (FIG), four times higher than Paris 2018 according to ‘Il Fatto Quotidiano’, this is the most expensive edition in history.

Now Italy is waiting for the economic impact that benefits the national treasury. Because it invested in roads for the event, infrastructure for the reception of tourists and advertising and marketing initiatives, among many others.

A twelve-year project (2016-2027) that, according to FIG and an analysis by the consulting firm KPMG, will have an economic impact of approximately 513.4 million euros in total at least, with approximately 277.4 million coming from direct effects and 236 million from indirect effects. Five star experiences

Anticipated for one of the most important events in sport, general tickets for the Ryder Cup have long been sold out, a tournament that is about to celebrate its first century. They are between 50 and 100 euros, but they fly at a dizzying speed. Not even one. The organization offers several ‘Premium’ experiences to enjoy this rivalry that was born in 1927, in Massachusetts.

Since then, and almost always every two years, the tradition of rivalry between North Americans and Europeans has been maintained – until 1979 it was only against the United Kingdom – which through now it ends 28-15 in favor of the Americans. Of course, the United States hasn’t won in Europe since 1993.

The ‘Marco Simone Golf and Country Club’ in Rome, which has seen personalities as strong as Novak Djokovic, Carlos Sainz, Andrey Shevchenko and Gareth Bale, will be a luxurious ally for the spectator who wants to get a better taste of the three intense day of legendary team competition.

The most expensive experience? 1,295 euros to have a privileged view of holes 16 and 17 with all kinds of VIP services. There are also group packages, with 9,000 euros for a package for 10 people and 17,000 for twenty people.

For three days, Rome will be a golf course with the Colosseum in the background. Tucked-in polo shirts and caps will take over the Eternal City, providing fans of the sport with irons, holes, ‘greens’ and ‘bunkers’. Total hotel occupancy. There are no rooms left, not even those offered by the tournament organization itself.

Rome will adapt public transport to tournament schedules for thousands of fans to reach the golf club. Full media deployment

The Marco Simone camp has a maximum capacity of 50,000 people, so an estimated 300,000 will pass through the venue throughout the week. There are 5,000 seats on hole 1 to watch the starting signal.

Tickets have been sold in nearly 85 countries.. The event will be broadcast in 201 countries and there are more than 900 accredited media for its coverage. In addition, 80 cameras will be distributed throughout the 18 holes to produce an international television signal.

This is how the Ryder Cup was made in Rome. The most expensive in history. United States versus Europe. A deluxe edition for a legendary tournament.
