Sergio Canales, former Real Betis player, was injured during his stay at Rayados de Monterrey and suffered a “myotendinous injury to the rectus femoris of the left quadriceps” which could keep him out for several weeks. The Cantabrian footballer, whose game receives a lot of criticism in Mexico, felt discomfort during a recent training session and, after the relevant medical tests, the Rayados club issued a medical report.
“The Monterrey Rayados Soccer Club reported that, after conducting clinical evaluation and imaging studies, player Sergio Canales has a myotendinous injury to the rectus femoris of the left quadriceps. Medical tests were conducted on Sergio after he reported pain in his left anterior thigh. In the following days, specialists will evaluate the treatment to be followed.” The medical report does not indicate the time of the sick leave, but the first impressions are not entirely positive.
Since his arrival at Rayados, Canales has played 10 games with the team, five in the Leagues Cup and the same number of games in Liga MX, accumulating a total of five points. Rival city fans called him ‘Sergio Penales’, as he was in charge of collecting from 11 steps and hence his excellent scoring quota. The Spaniard arrived as the ‘bomb’ of the tournament, coming off a fine form from LaLiga’s Betis, but so far he has not performed as expected, according to the Mexican press.
