The French Stephanie Frappart was appointed to referee the England-Australia friendly on Friday, becoming the first woman to referee a men’s international match at Wembley.
Frappart, among other achievements, was the first woman to referee a match at the men’s World Cup in Qatar 2022 when she refereed Germany’s victory over Costa Rica (4-2). The 39-year-old referee was also a pioneer when directing matches in the French League 2 and League 1, the Champions League (Juventus-Dinamo Kiev) and the 2019 European Super Cup between Liverpool and Chelsea.
At Wembley he will be assisted by his compatriots Mikael Berchebru and Aurelien Drouet, while the fourth official will be Hakim Ben El Hadj and the VAR will be Mathieu Vernice and Nicolas Rainville
