Ricardo Hortain front of Sporting Bragawas ruled this Tuesday from the call for Portugal due to injury, Bayern Munich full-back Raphaël Guerreiro joins the list of players unavailable for coach Roberto Martínez.
According to a statement from the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), Horta underwent an examination on Tuesday morning that “indicated that he may recover to participate” in the team’s next matches, against Slovakia, on Friday, and Bosnia, on monday
The 29-year-old former Málaga player missed Braga’s last game (2-1 win over Rio Ave) with a thigh problem, and hopes to recover in time for the clash between the Portuguese club and Real Madrid which is equivalent to the group stage of the Champions League, scheduled for the 24th.
In addition to Horta, Portugal coach Roberto Martínez will not be able to count on the Bayern Munich full-back. Raphael Guerreirowho was injured, also in his thigh, in training with the Bavarians.
Guerreiro’s absence limits Martínez’s options on the left side of defense, where he cannot count on Nuno Mendes (PSG), who recently underwent surgery on a tendon in his left thigh that prevented his return this season.
Despite the casualties, the Catalan coach chose not to call on any substitutes.
Portugal face Slovakia this Friday at the Estádio do Dragão, in Porto, and should they win they will earn a ticket for the Euro 2024 Championship in Germany.
On Monday the 16th they face Bosnia-Herzegovina at the Bilino Polje stadium in Zenica, in the Balkan country.
