“Today the IOC has made another counterproductive decision with clear political motivation. Thus ensuring de jure what was done de facto in February 2022,” COR said in a statement published on its Telegram channel .
In the opinion of Russian Olympic Committee, This proposal does not affect Russian athletes, because “the majority of them are still unjustifiably excluded from international competitions, and their neutral status remains unchanged.”
The COR, he added, has the right to protect its own interests and those of the athletes and organizations “of a sovereign nation that we represent in good faith.”
The IOC Executive Commission today decided to suspend the COR due to the “unilateral decision made on October 5, 2023 to include among its members the regional sports organizations under the authority of National Olympic Committee (NOC) from Ukraine (eg Donetsk, Kherson, Lugansk and Zaporizhzhia), which constitutes a violation of Olympic Charter“.
According to the spokesperson, this decision “violates the territorial integrity of the NOC of Ukraine.” The suspension “is effective immediately and until further notice.”
The Executive Commission recalled on Thursday that the IOC continues to reserve “the right to decide on the participation of individual neutral athletes with Russian passports in Paris 2024 Olympic Games and in Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games 2026.
