Athletes participating in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be protected from abuse on social networks through a monitoring service based on artificial intelligence, which will detect these threats.
The project was presented this Saturday at the meeting held in Bombay (India) by the IOC Executive Commission and its Athletes Commission.
The tool has been successfully tested during the Olympic Week of Electronic Sports, in June.
The solution works on major social media platforms and in major languages. The service ensures, according to the IOC, “that social media platforms can effectively deal with abusive messages and, if necessary, that legal measures can be quickly adopted, freeing athletes from this burden.”
The system monitors thousands of accounts in real timeso in many cases the platforms can act before the athlete has a chance to see the abuse.
The goal of this initiative, according to the IOC, is protect the mental health and well-being of athletes and ensure a safe environment so they can focus on their sports competitions.
