Justin Suh shot a 3-under 67 on Saturday to lead the third round of the Zozo Championship, the first time he has led on the final day of a PGA Tour event, and is also looking for his first PGA Tour victory. He led Eric Cole (66) and Beau Hossler (68) on a sunny autumn day at Narashino Country Club, just outside Tokyo.
Collin Morikawa, the first-round leader, was just two shots back after a 66. Morikawa is looking to break a “mini slump” since winning the 2021 British Open and the DP World Tour Championship in the same year. He also won the PGA Championship in 2020.
After his round of 73 on a windy Friday, three over par on the course, and starting Saturday with a double bogey on his first hole and a bogey on the third, all seemed lost for Morikawa (-7). But the American picked up his putter to fully re-engage in the fight for victory at Zozo.
The surprising fact is that none of the three players in Sunday’s stellar match, the leader, Eric Cole (-8) and Beau Hossler (-8), knows what it is to win a tournament on the circuit. And the three members of the penultimate team, Morikawa, Emiliano Grillo (-6) and Satoshi Kodaira (-6) lifted PGA Tour trophies.
