Former Spanish basketball player Pau Gasolwho on August 4, 2021 was elected member of International Olympic Committee (IOC) On behalf of the athletes, he will also be their spokesperson at the body’s Ethics Commission, which was approved by its meeting on Friday.
The Ethics Commission, currently headed by the former Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki Moon, must include a representative of the athletes and the Executive IOC suggested this Friday that it was gasolinean appointment unanimously approved by 139 Session -the plenary assembly-, with 52 votes in favor and no against.
Among the 30 athletes who filed their candidacies at the last Tokyo Games to fill four vacancies on the Athletes’ Commission of the IOC, gasoline the most voted, with 1,888 supports, followed by the Polish cyclist Maja Martyna Wloszczowska (1,674 votes), the Italian swimmer Federica Pellegrini (1658) and the Japanese fencer Yuki Ota (1,616).
Gasol, who has since retired, participated in the Spanish team of five Olympic Games and won silver Beijing 2008 at London 2012 and the bronze in river 2016.
