The Dutch New three-time world champion Max Verstappen (Red Bull) assured after winning the sprint race of the United States Grand Prix that Sunday’s race will be “more difficult” than that he just won because he was going to start sixth and that “that was fun.”
After his maneuver at the start, where he pushed the Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) towards the inside straight, Verstappen explained that on that straight “there’s a lot of space and that helps” and that’s why he tried “closer to the curve” on the inside so as not to lose position to Leclerc.
“I think Leclerc was better than me at the start and that’s why I tried to make it as difficult as possible for him and it worked,” said the three-time world champion.
‘Mad Max’ explained that Sunday’s sixth departure “wasn’t ideal” but maintained that “the pace of the car was pretty strong” and that it will help him: “Although the humble situation will not be simple, the race is in our hands,” he highlighted.
Also, he insisted that his aim in the first laps was to leave the British Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) outside the DRS zone, because he knew the difference between having DRS or not: “When outside DRS, the speed of my car was pretty good today,” concluded Verstappen.
