The play that Celta cried out for: The goal was disallowed after poor control by Gazzaniga

Date:

A Celta cross in the 82nd minute of the game was poorly blocked by Gazzaniga, who missed the ball and ended up colliding with Dotor. The referee does not call a foul and the game ends with a goal from De la Torre. At that moment Isidro Díaz de Mera, referee of the match, signaled the foul, to the disbelief of the Celtiñas.

The referee’s decision left everyone confused, and one of those who expressed his disbelief was Celta coach Benítez. Looking at replays of the play, no fouls are visible. The action would have changed the tone of the match, as at that moment the scoreboard was tied at zero and would have given the advantage to a Celta that would end in the 90th after Yangel Herrera’s goal.
