The last Assembly of Athletic Members started at 7:00 pm on Tuesday and concluded at 3:30 am on Wednesday. The president of the red-and-white club and his team also confirmed that something is not working properly after the new laws of the Bilbao entity came into force.
“We must reflect on the attitude of the delegates and the changes introduced in the voting system since last year,” commented Uriarte in the subsequent press conference.
Abstentions on the eight issues submitted to the Assembly for consideration increased as the meeting progressed. In the first item of the night discussed, the management of the board of directors in the financial year of the 2022-23 season; 807 red and white members were present physically or electronically at the exhibition and debate, but 260 of them abstained from voting.
Since then, in all the remaining issues of the day, the official attendance of the assembly reached 812 delegates, but the abstention gradually increased from 260 members corresponding to the second issue to 624 for the last one. The conclusion is clear: more than half of the delegates are connected to the Assembly at some point, but occasionally and without actual voting.
After the new Athletic laws were implemented, a series of rules were established whereby those members who did not attend the gatherings could lose their status as delegates, on the one hand, and each of the issues of the order of the day must be voted at the end of the exhibition and the interventions in them, on the other hand.
The balance in this matter, given what has been seen, is that in only one of the points on the agenda, the first of the night (management of the board last season), more than half of the delegated members of Athletic voted . : 631 out of 1,150.
