Roberto Bautista fell this Wednesday in the round of 16 of the Sofia tournament against Hungarian Fabian Marozsan by 3-6, 6-3 and 7-6 (4), leaving the Bulgarian Open draw without Spanish representation, Well, Albert Ramos also lost in the previous match.
Facing world numbers 60 (Bautista) and 62 (Marozsan), the equality of the two was reflected in the two hours and twenty they were on court.
Marozsan led in the early stages and only needed a break of serve to take the opening set. Bautista, who returned to action in October after months out with an ankle injury, saved four set points before giving up the fourth.
Both rivals switched roles in the second set, which the player from Castellón won with a break in the sixth game.
Three service exchanges at the start of the third set, and another loss by Bautista, left him with no margin for error. At 5-4 for the Hungarian and a serve from the Spaniard, Marozsan got three match points that Bautista easily avoided. The set led to a tiebreaker which was settled when the Central European won the first five points.
Bautista has already played three tie-breaks this Tuesday in his debut draw, against Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic.
Albert Ramos fell first to Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 6-4, 6-4.
The match entered an unexpected phase midway through the first set, with five consecutive breaks of service. The exchange favored the Frenchman, the second seed in the tournament.
In the second set, Ramos was on the verge of losing his serve in the sixth game, where he had to work hard to save two break points.
Mannarino’s final blow came in the tenth game, with another break giving him a place in the quarterfinals.
With this victory, the Frenchman evened his results against Ramos at 5-5. His next opponent is Austrian Sebastian Ofner. EFE
