The F1 published this Monday evening the complete last lap of the spectacular battle they fought Fernando Alonso and ‘Checo’ Pérez to F1 Brazilian GP 2023 this Sunday, along with several radio stations on the wall of Aston Martin in Asturian.
In one hour, the video was compiled 1.8 million views on the official account of F1, while on Twitter it has 417,000 views. In these pictures, you can see how in the last corners of the penultimate turn, before entering the finish line, the engineer said Fernando Alonso that he could get Pérez’s DRS to stick with him and ask him to change something about the car through the steering wheel.
“Yes, you’re going to get DRS. Go to ‘Strat 5’, ‘Strat 5’,” he asked. Next, Alonso applies the change through the steering wheel with his right hand while turning to his left. And he overtook Pérez before reaching turn 1.
There, Fernando already knew he wasn’t going to attack in turn 1, but he had to do it in turn 4. Because passing him in turn 1 meant that Pérez could reverse the move in turn 4. Alonso wants to have the ‘last bullet’ and not give ‘Checo’ any more options. Therefore, he chose to use Turn 1 as the exit springboard for his plan. He opened a lot on turn 1 to take a different route than Pérez which would allow him to gain more traction and accelerate earlier. So, he can stay with Pérez’s DRS on the straight before Turn 4.

It was amazing to see how Alonso threatened to come inside, and when Pérez moved to the left to cover the gap, Fernando suddenly turned the steering wheel, as if waiting for him, to change direction and complete the overtake.
Final defense and full battery
Later, the camera showing the video is the rear of Alonso’s car. There you can see that Pérez had more speed and the Asturian’s lines in the curves were completely different to not give the Mexican options and confuse him. Fernando Alonso did that job while also conserving battery energy because he knew he had to use it to defend himself on the final straight against a car with higher speed and DRS.
“Ok man, press and hold. Press and hold. You have a lot of (battery) power. Hold it down”, his engineer told Fernando before facing the final fast left corners, which were done at full throttle. Finally, this camera allows us to appreciate how close Pérez was to the end and the tremendous speed that passed him in the ‘photo finish’ finale where Alonso achieved third place.
“Unbelievable,” the engineer said when he saw Alonso make it. “This is for you guys. All of you. Whole factory. Everyone. Thank you very much”Fernando responded with an emotional radio.
The most viral video of the Alonso-‘Checo’ fight:
Although there is no doubt, the number of views of this video is a far cry from the more than 23 million views that the video of the end of the ‘photo finish’ starring Alonso and Pérez that posted F1 on Sunday , was recorded from the Interlagos finish line.
