Carlos Sainz placed second in the standings F1 Las Vegas GP, but he had to start 12th because he was penalized 10 places on the grid for mounting his third battery. He installed a new battery as the previous one was damaged due to poor drainage which should not have been a problem. The fault is the organization and the FIAbut he paid for it Sainz including those 10 seats. From fighting for the win, to coming back from 12th place in a weekend where his car was too fast not only to aim for pole, but also to possibly put a team in trouble. Verstappen that this weekend is not on another planet.
Because of this, Carlos Sainz admitted to ‘DAZN F1′ that he is still angry with the stewards’ decision to punish him knowing full well that Carlos changed the battery not because he wanted to or because of any reliability failure, but because of an error by the FIA and the track creators.
“Happy with the team’s performance. It’s been a great weekend so far. I wanted to take pole, because I overtook it by half a tenth (in 44 thousandths), which is half slipstream, half curve, half braking which could be better”, commented Sainz, who came out of the queue first to set his time, without slipping and without waiting for the end to take advantage of the last seconds of the track.
“We are first and second, but unfortunately tomorrow (on the grid) we are 1st and 12th. And no, I still feel bad after yesterday. Very dissatisfied and not very willing to talk and I am in a bad mood, honestly Now, we try to think about tomorrow and we have to try to come back,” added the Madrid native.
44 THOUSAND FIRST POSITIONS
“I think it’s fair to say that Charles was a step in confidence. In Q3 I made a great step forward and as a team we may not have achieved the best lap time we have. But it was 1st and 2nd that we are. We are flying and dominating all the sessions. I want to fight for the victory, but unfortunately, I start 12th.
THE SUPERIORITY OF FERRARI
“I am not surprised. The design of the circuit is a combination between Monza and Singapore. Except for turns 1 and 2, the two circuits where we have been the strongest this season, in one we achieved pole and in the other we won us. I said we have a good chance to take pole and as usual the race is a question mark for us.
FOLLOWING WILL NOT BE EASY AND BE CAREFUL ABOUT GIVING
“I think we all expected overtaking to be easier. On this track it is very difficult to follow the car in front of you through the walls and the confidence you lose when there is a car in front when you brake and you don’t see the references either. It is quite difficult to follow the car in front. I’m going to advance tomorrow, no doubt, but I don’t know how much or how fast I’m going to advance, I don’t know. You need to see the strategy. The grain here is pronounced and we have to see if the race offers any chance to reach the top positions.
THEY PRACTICE ONLY ONE EXIT
“It’s the same for everyone. We only tried one way out. I just hope I have a better start than in Brazil, where he had a problem. I will start on the 12th. Maybe tomorrow the start will not be the best and we will have to overtake.
DEGRADATION, KEY TO THE CAREER
“The key is to see how we wear the front tire a little bit. There’s enough paddy for everybody and I think tomorrow that paddy will dominate. You have to see if it’s one or two stops, it’s going to be it’s difficult to warm up the tire well on the formation lap, at the beginning, and then see if you can overtake or not. “We all expected it to be an easy overtake, but the reality was a bit more difficult than we expected .”
