The British 2022 champion and now at LIV, is confident of being in the Olympics.

Date:

Australian number one, Cameron Smithhopes to earn enough world ranking points on his domestic circuit and in next year’s majors to qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.

He former world number two and British Open champion 2022 has fallen to 18th place in the world ranking since joining LIV Golf, where players cannot (for now) add points to the world ranking.

Only the top 60 can qualify for Paris, while Smith also faces competition from his compatriots. Jason Day and Adam Scott for places on the Australian team.

This caused Smith to defend his title from Australian PGA Championship this week at the Royal Queensland Golf Club and boost his ranking.

“Yeah, I really want to be there, one hundred percent,” the ‘Aussie’ golfer told reporters. “I know the criteria, I don’t know if that can change,” he added.

Smith, who tied for 10th at the Tokyo Olympics, will also earn points at Australian Open in Sydney next week.

“I have this couple of events and four more options again in the majors, so I hope I can maintain that ranking,” said Smith. “Having the shield on my chest again will be very special,” he concluded.

LIV’s offer for its players to earn ranking points was roundly rejected last month by Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR). Although four Grand Slams have allowed LIV players to compete, those who have obtained exemptions to participate in them due to previous results may miss out on a day, as they do not earn points in the world rankings .
